Divorce drama for Georgia natives, ‘Basketball Wives’ stars

Sometimes, people get divorced because they have grown apart or are no longer in love.

At other times, they separate because the relationship has become unhealthy or dangerous. The case of Kris and Anna Benson, a couple once featured on the reality series “Baseball Wives,” seems as thought it might be the latter.

Kris Benson, a former pitcher for the New York Mets, filed for divorce from Anna Benson, a former model, last year.

On July 7, Anna Benson allegedly forced her way into Kris Benson’s Georgia residence. She was said to be wearing a bulletproof vest and was armed with a gun and a collapsible metal baton. She reportedly demanded money from her estranged husband.

Kris Benson called the police and Anna Benson was arrested.

The next day, Anna Benson was charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault with a weapon, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and one count of criminal trespass.

We are not writing about this story because of its tabloid, sensational elements. Rather, the reason we are writing about it is because it is a high-profile example of a situation in which it seems like the healthiest, safest and best thing is for this couple to no longer be together.

Certainly, this situation is exceptionally dramatic. However, not all situations in which divorcing is the best thing are as turbulent. We have worked with many couples who had far less headline-grabbing stories, but benefitted greatly from divorce all the same.
